The Heslington East Campus project created a new centre for the University where learning and living was combined. Merit was employed to provide the infrastructure services for the new campus including a district heating network, water, communications systems and power.
Merit as the Principal Contractor was responsible for the design and installation of the services and energy centre.
A large portion of the works to expand the Campus required connections to existing infrastructure networks. Merit worked with the local Highways to minimise the nuisance to local residence whilst services were laid in local roads and pedestrian routes.
To reduce the overall programme the Merit prefabrication division was used to provide plant skids which could be installed pre-commissioned and then hooked up to the on site services.
The project is complete. Merit is on site completing additional works for the client and has since be asked to tender for a similar infrastructure project on the campus scheduled to commence in June 2014.
