E.ON is a German electric utility company based in Essen, and are the second largest electricity and gas supplier in the UK. The Blackwall Reach Regeneration project is a partnership between the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Swan Housing Association as their development partner. The regeneration will transform the main area of Tower Hamlets adjacent to the Blackwall Tunnel, replacing 252 homes with over 1500 new homes, commercial premises, an extended school and new mosque.
The development comprised of three blocks of high-rise flats (24 storeys and 10 storeys) and 2,472m² of commercial space spread across the blocks.
Merit was responsible for the design, supply, installation and management of the Installation of Energy Centre for Mixed-Use Development, as well as full commissioning and testing of the facility.
The site is bounded by the Docklands Light Railway and a number of main roads with constrained space for plant storage. Merit undertook much of the construction at its 270,000m² offsite manufacturing facility in the North of England. The units were then transported to site with meticulous advance planning and logistics.
