Westfield London is one of the major shopping centres in west London, recently ranked the number one shopping experience in the UK. The development covers approximately 30 football pitches and cost over £1.6bn.
Merit was appointed on the initial development of the shopping centre, to provide five prefabricated plant rooms and the distribution pipework supplying services to the shop units. Following those early works Merit was awarded a further contract to supply roof mounted plant and equipment to allow development of the Kidzania and Net - A- Porter facilities.
The project required coordination with a number of retailers, to allow expansion of the existing systems and commissioning. Merit was selected as we have significant expertise working in retail environments; ensuring that engineering works do not impact on the shopping experience of customers using the centre. The Merit project team worked closely with the planning and Highways Authorities to manage the required road closures and a crane lift adjacent to the Network Rail operating line.
The works provided by Merit included design and installation of power, instrumentation and mechanical services. A large portion of the pipework and plant was prefabricated which reduced the on site programme ensuring that all retail stores remained operational during the works.
