Merit is leading the delivery of an £11 million therapy-led unit for the Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust at Norwich Community Hospital. Named the Willow Therapy Unit, this 48-bed modular ward aims to streamline patient transitions and alleviate pressure on local acute hospitals.

Selected for its focus on innovation, technology, and sustainability, Merit commenced the project in January 2024 as the primary offsite construction partner. This project marks a significant milestone with the first deployment of Merit’s groundbreaking UltraPOD® SFS Variant.

The multimillion-pound project, led by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) will include 48 single single and four-bedded bays, as well as treatment areas, an assessment kitchen and self-service café area where patients can make drinks for themselves and their families, staff amenities and a reception area.

Once operational, the new facility will focus on therapy-led services and will alleviate pressures on local acute hospitals.

The new UltraPOD® SFS variant incorporates advanced manufacturing technologies, including the latest roll former and panel line production systems, enhancing affordability and reducing project timelines. The facility features the latest platform variant (V6), rated BREEAM Excellent as a minimum, with an EPC-A rating and a 69% reduction in energy consumption compared to current Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) hospital benchmarks.

Scheduled for completion in August 2024, the Willow Therapy Unit exemplifies Merit’s commitment to innovation, setting a new standard for healthcare infrastructure delivery.
