Merit was appointed as the Principal Contractor for the turnkey design and construction of a cutting-edge laboratory and office facility at Biopark, Welwyn Garden City. This project supports a world-class research and development centre situated in the UK’s prominent life sciences hub. 

Key components of the works included: architectural design, civil and structural development for a poral steel-framed building, laboratories and office spaces, general and process services and utilities, comprehensive commissioning and validation and complete fit-out of laboratories and offices.

With a demanding schedule of just 19 weeks for the entire design and construction, rapid execution was critical to success. Merit utilised innovative design practices and lightweight construction techniques to adhere to the strict budget set by the client.

Our in-house fabrication facility in Northumberland played a vital role in this project, allowing for the prefabrication of substantial pipework offsite, which minimised material damage risks and streamlined installation processes. The client's urgent need for timely project completion, due to pre-leased laboratory space, served as a driving factor and Merit successfully ensured the site was completed on schedule, meeting all compliance requirements.
